Bobby Deol has been a prominent actor who witnessed various ups and downs in their career. The actor’s charismatic screen presence, ability to work hard, and versatility have impressed fans in films like Animal, Ajnabee, Soldier, and more. But the success and being the son of a legendary actor, Dharmendra, didn’t make him immune from downfall and tough times in showbiz. One of the most heartbreaking moments in Bobby Deol’s career came when he was removed from Jab We Met, a film he helped Imtiaz Ali initiate. The film went on to make a permanent place in the hearts of fans, but Bobby missed a big breakthrough in his career. In a recent interview, he shared how things changed behind the scenes.
Bobby Deol reveals how he tried to set up things for Jab We Met
Bobby Deol, who has once again achieved fame with his recent films, sat down for an interview with Instant Bollywood. During the conversation, he opened up about a lesser-known chapter from his career where he played a significant role in ensuring that Jab We Met was made. He admitted that he wasn’t offered the film directly but played a crucial role in bringing the idea to execution with Imtiaz Ali. The actor explained that he saw its incomplete rush and asked Imtiaz to write it. He said:
“I saw its rush print. I caught Imtiaz and said, ‘Look, your film hasn’t been released yet; it’s only halfway done. I’m working with you, so write the script.’ So, he started writing the script for me. I tried really hard to make that film (Jab We Met) happen; I reached out to a lot of people.”
Bobby worked hard to gather the right team and approached producers like Ashtavinayak for it, who initially refused it. But, since Bobby was a close friend of Imtiaz, he continued with the efforts. Later, the producer wanted Kareena Kapoor, so Bobby arranged a meeting with her, but she rejected the script. Moreover, Preity Zinta also asserted that she wasn’t keen on doing the film but would do it later. However, after putting in all his efforts, the same producer removed Bobby from the film. Recalling the phase, the actor said:
“The industry is such that the producer to whom I had suggested that he take Imtiaz ended up taking him. Meanwhile, they kicked me out and got Kareena and Shahid instead. That’s how it happened.”
Bobby Deol shares he was ‘upset’ after being removed from Jab We Met
In the same conversation, Bobby Deol admitted that he was disappointed with how things got unfolded and was left heartbroken when the film went ahead without him. However, he doesn’t blame the filmmaker, Imtaiz Ali, since he had his own limitations. Consequently, the actor feels that maybe the film wasn’t meant for him. He stated:
“What happened happened, and Imtiaz made that film. It can be tough in the industry; I was really upset about it at the time. But Imtiaz also had his struggles; he was just starting his career and didn’t have many choices. That sort of thing happens a lot in this business. It’s so heartbreaking, but it wasn’t meant to be, or it just never clicked.”
