The former Miss World and global icon has been a Cannes regular since her debut, but it’s the presence of her daughter Aaradhya by her side in recent years that has melted hearts and sparked curiosity. Speaking to Film Companion, Aishwarya finally opened up about what makes this yearly ritual so meaningful for the mother-daughter duo.
While many assume that Aaradhya, born in 2011, accompanies her mother simply to witness the glamorous fashion spectacle, Aishwarya revealed that her daughter’s connection to the festival goes much deeper. Though they haven’t had detailed conversations about it, Aishwarya believes Aaradhya has grasped the essence of the event. When asked what Aaradhya has taken away from her Cannes experience, Aishwarya responded by saying:
“Isn’t this a question that she should be answering? At some point in her life, I guess she will.”
Aishwarya also explained how, for Aaradhya, the Cannes experience has been more about togetherness and a sense of belonging rather than simply accompanying her mother. She shared that her daughter feels completely at ease there, as the environment has become familiar over the years. Aaradhya knows the space, recognises many faces, and enjoys reconnecting with people.

Aishwarya and Aaradhya have become one of the most beloved mother-daughter duos at Cannes, with their loving bond, twinning accessories and coordinated fashion moments. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her iconic Cannes debut in 2002, attending the premiere of Devdas alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. A decade later, in 2012, she brought along her five-month-old daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, to the Red Carpet for the first time. Since then, Aaradhya has accompanied her mother to the festival almost every year, often making headlines for their picture-perfect moments.
In 2019, Aishwarya dazzled in a dramatic metallic gold gown with a long train and leaf-cut detailing, while Aaradhya charmed in a lemon yellow asymmetrical tulle dress, complete with soft bangs and a side-pinned hairstyle.
Fast forward to 2022, Aishwarya arrived in a chic all-black ensemble featuring a star-printed jacket, black shirt, and tights. Aaradhya complemented her mom’s look with a playful outfit comprising a pink printed top and wide-leg jeans, accessorised with a black headband.
At Cannes 2024, Aishwarya stunned in a black-and-white Falguni Shane Peacock corset gown with golden flowers and puffed sleeves. Aaradhya, once again by her mom’s side, wore an all-black ensemble with a white sheer bow, capturing hearts with their coordinated style.
