Soon, she became a mother to three children: two daughters, Aayana and Samara and a son, Yuvraaj. Revealing how marriage changed her as a woman, Kanika recalled in a throwback interview.
“Marriage exposed me to a fancy life of another level and that kind of took over me. I was materialistic, egoistic, vain and was full of myself, to the extent of being borderline arrogant.”
Kanika Kapoor was strictly told not to sing by her in-laws
In an interview with JioSaavn, Kanika revealed her struggles to achieve the name she has now. She had revealed that when she had tied the knot, her in-laws had clearly stated that they didn’t want her to sing. However, she had persuaded her then-husband and struck a deal with him that she wouldn’t take up singing as a profession but would just practice it for herself.
Kanika Kapoor’s ugly divorce and becoming suicidal
After staying in an unhappy marriage for years, Kanika decided to part ways with her husband, Raj Chandok. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Kanika Kapoor talked about her bad marriage and revealed that she was going through hell. The singer also talked about being suicidal at one point and revealed:
“It happens when you have no money, are going through a bad divorce, and the lawyers are squeezing you to the limit. Plus, you have three kids, who have been thrown out of school because you haven’t paid the fees. Then, you fall sick. You hit a low and feel that there is nothing left. But, at the time, I got a lot of support from my mother, my brother and a few friends.”
Kanika Kapoor married for the second time at the age of 43
In May 2022, Kanika Kapoor gave love another chance and married an NRI businessman, Gautam Hathiramani. She had known Gautam for 15 years, and they were best friends. In an interview with ETimes, Kanika spoke about living a lonely life for 10 years and said:
“Gautam accepts me for who I am… a mother, an artiste, a daughter and a friend. He proposed a year ago, and I was surprised as I wasn’t sure whether we would ever get married. It was because of my own doubts. The fact that I am divorced with three children, I wasn’t sure whether I would be accepted by him and his family. For the last 10 years, I was lonely.”
Kanika married Gautam in the presence of her kids, who were teenagers. Kanika’s elder son was 19, and her daughters were 17 and 15, respectively, when the singer married for the second time. It was her son who walked her to the mandap, and her daughters stood by her during the pheras.
