Some royal watchers are convinced that President Donald Trump took a shot at Prince Harry during his recent state visit to the U.K.
“I just want to say that His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, Prince of Wales. Really amazing,” Trump, 79, said during his speech at the state banquet hosted at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, September 17. “We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in future.”
Trump’s speech did not reference Harry, 41, who met with Charles one week before the president’s visit. (Harry sat down with his father for a private tea for the first time in nearly two years amid their ongoing tension.)
Trump and wife Melania Trump landed in the U.K. on Wednesday for his second state visit and was photographed shaking hands with Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, whom he called “beautiful” as they greeted each other. The president also rubbed elbows with King Charles III and Queen Camilla, taking a carriage-led processional through the Windsor Castle grounds.
The day’s events — which also included Trump honoring the late Queen Elizabeth II — led into the night’s dinner, which was hosted by Charles, 76.
“Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness, Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, so beautiful,” Trump’s speech on Wednesday continued.
For some royal fans, it wasn’t too much of a shock that Trump left the Duke of Sussex out of his remarks. Trump has previously shared his disdain of Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.
After Harry and Meghan departed the royal family in 2020 and relocated to America, Trump took to social media stating that he “will not pay for their security protection” in the United States.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources,” a rep for Harry and Meghan told Us in March 2020. “Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

Months later, Trump stated that he was “not a fan” of Meghan’s after she and Harry shared a video in September 2020, urging United States citizens to vote in the election that year.
“I would say this — and she has probably heard that — I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it,” Trump told reporters at the time.
Trump has continued to publicly comment on Harry and Meghan’s relationship in more recent years. This past February, Trump addressed questions about Harry’s immigration status in the United States.
“I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” Trump told The New York Post at the time. “I think poor Harry is being led around by the nose.”
