Ellen Pompeo is explaining a little more about her thought process during her last full seasons at Grey’s Anatomy that caused her to reduce her role on the show.
If you don’t know, in 2023, she stepped away as a full time cast member, but still does appear in a handful of episodes per season and provides Meredith Grey’s iconic voiceovers.
On “Call Her Daddy,” Ellen shared that she felt she needed to step away at a certain point, due to feeling like an animal at a zoo.

She shared, “I didn’t know what I was going to do. I just knew that I really couldn’t do ‘Grey’s’ anymore. It was to the point where I really just felt like an animal at the zoo. I’m a big believer in destiny. I thought, if there’s something else I’m meant to do, it’s gonna find me. But I know I have to leave this.”
The current season of Grey‘s did see Ellen having an increased presence.
