Sunaina Roshan, sister of Bollywood superstar, Hrithik Roshan, has bravely opened up about her harrowing struggle with alcoholism. The film producer has recently been baring her heart out about her struggles with mental health issues, physical issues, and the darkest phase of her life. In a recent interview, Sunaina candidly revealed his struggle with alcoholism, recalling that she had to spend 28 days in a rehabilitation centre.
Sunaina Roshan shares her views on alcohol and alcoholism
In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Sunaina Roshan reflected on her journey, revealing how alcohol has become an escape for her during vulnerable times. She was heard saying:
“Alcohol is not a bad thing, but alcoholism is, where you do not have control over your drinks. So I was going through a very very difficult time. I was very vulnerable emotionally and wanted to numb my senses — so I drank. I know that was the worst phase of my life.”
However, what began as a coping mechanism soon spiralled into a full-blown dependency. Sunaina admitted that her addiction quickly took over her life, resulting in excessive drinking throughout the day. Sunaina didn’t hold back when talking about the devastating impact her addiction had on her body and mind. She shared:
“I have fallen off beds, injured myself, I had a slip from a chair and it was a very, very difficult phase. It’s a vicious cycle because you get a high, your brain is numb, and the next day it’s like you get more anxiety, more panic attacks, dehydration, you have no energy to do anything, so you don’t want to get back into a good state, you start drinking again.”
Sunaina Roshan shares how her parents stepped in to help her
Upon seeing their daughter spiralling into binging on alcohol, her parents, veteran filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan, and Pinkie Roshan, intervened in an effort to save her. They took drastic measures, including revoking her credit cards and cutting off financial support, as they realized she was spending all her money on alcohol.

However, despite her family’s intervention, Sunaina emphasised that the decision to recover had to come from within. After battling with alcoholism for quite a while, she mustered the courage to one day sit her parents down and seek help. Although her parents suggested rehabilitation, Sunaina took the initiative to find a rehab centre on her own. Sunaina shared:
“I sat my parents down and told them, ‘I want to get out of this.’ They suggested rehab, but I took the initiative and found a rehabilitation centre myself.”
Describing her ordeal in the rehab facility, Sunaina recalled that she spent a total of 28 days working on her addiction, only to return as a different person willing to reclaim her life.
Hrithik Roshan and his family are proud of Sunaina’s recovery
Today, Sunaina’s family, including her brother, Hrithik Roshan, is immensely proud of her strength and determination. Her decision to take charge of her life and confront her addiction has brought her closer to her loved ones. She added that her journey of recovery has also played a vital role in making her family proud.
