Mamta Kulkarni suddenly broke into the headlines on January 24, 2025, when she was chosen as the Maha Mandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. The former actress was bestowed with this prestigious title after she had been walking on a spiritual path for the last 23 years. Mamta Kulkarni also adopted a new name, ‘Shri Yamai Mamta Nand Giri’.
Seeing the iconic actress, Mamta Kulkarni, back in the news headlines, people felt a bit nostalgic. They started remembering the days when she was among the leading actresses of Hindi cinema. Apart from being a successful actress who worked with some of the biggest actors in Hindi cinema back in that era, Mamta Kulkarni was also quite popular for her bold fashion quotient and unfiltered statements.
Mamta Kulkarni and Ameesha Patel’s infamous fight over the quality of food in Mauritius
Unfortunately, she indulged in a series of controversies at the pomp of her acting career. For instance, Mamta Kulkarni once stated in an interview that iconic actresses, Sridevi and Rekha were ‘cosmetic beauties’. She once scolded Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of Karan Arjun for not doing their steps correctly. However, one more infamous incident happened when Mamta was a renowned star in the Hindi cinema while Ameesha Patel was in the initial phase of her acting career, reportedly after the success of Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.
According to a report in the IBTimes, Mamta Kulkarni and Ameesha Patel met at a mutual friend’s party in Mauritius. Everything was going fine, but when the food was served, Mamta Kulkarni reportedly started scolding the waiter and the entire cooking staff for the quality of the meal that they served at the party. Seeing Mamta allegedly harassing the waiter, Ameesha commented on Mamta’s lacking basic social etiquette. As soon as Mamta learned about it, she reportedly lashed out at the newcomer, Ameesha Patel. The senior actress told Ameesha:
“You are here in Mauritius to shoot for hair oil, aren’t you? Well, for your information, while you get paid a measly INR one lakh (Dhs 5770), I get INR15 lakh (Dhs86550) for the same. So you tell me who the bigger star is, you or me?”
Years later, in an interview with Masala.com, Ameesha Patel was asked about the same incident and what happened between her and Mamta Kulkarni in Mauritius. Although the actress refuted talking about it initially, she revealed that Mamta and her secretary were abusing the cooking staff over food quality. They became enraged when Ameesha intervened and told Mamta and her manager that everyone was eating the same food. Recalling the incident, Ameesha said:
“All of us were at a dinner party thrown by Mr. Bajaj (of the Bajaj Sevashram fame) and Mamta was complaining and harassing everybody about the food. Forget Mamta, even her secretary started abusing people there.”
Further, in the same interview with Masala.com, Ameesha Patel shared that she tried making Mamta Kulkarni, and her manager understands that the cooks have tried their best to make an Indian meal in Mauritius. However, none of them could understand it, and when Ameesha intervened in the scene, Mamta became extremely furious with the young actress. As a result, Mamta started showing off her ‘big star’ aura to Ameesha, who was just starting out in the film industry. Recalling the same, Ameesha said:
“Despite being in Mauritius, the hosts were trying to do their best to provide a great meal by the Indian cooks they have flown over, so I don’t think you should complain. My words angered Mamta because she thought she was a big star. What followed next was Mamta trying to show off her star status and telling me, ‘Who do you think you are?'”
Ameesha Patel’s mother warned Mamta Kulkarni’s manager, who threatened to hit her daughter
In the same interview, Ameesha Patel also revealed that Mamta Kulkarni’s manager threatened to hit her when things got heated between them. At that moment, Ameesha Patel’s mother, Asha Patel, intervened and warned Mamta’s manager not to even think of threatening her daughter. The doting mother even caught the manager’s hand and yelled at him. Sharing what her mother said to Mamta and her manager, Ameesha said:
“If you got a little educated, it would have helped you.” That’s when Mamta’s secretary came to her defence and threatened to hit Ameesha, but the latter’s mother allegedly caught the secretary’s hand and yelled, ‘Don’t you dare to touch my daughter.'”
