“Sound of Freedom” distributor Angel Studios has released a new trailer for “The King of Kings.” Based on the book “The Life of Our Lord” by Charles Dickens, the sweeping animated feature chronicles the life story of Jesus Christ.

Oscar Issac will voice Jesus and star alongside Kenneth Branagh (Charles Dickens), Uma Thurman (Mrs. Dickens), Mark Hamill (Herrod), Pierce Brosnan (Pontius Pilot), Roman Griffin Davis (Walter Dickens), Forest Whitaker (Peter) and Ben Kingsley (High Priest Caiaphus).

The film’s official logline reads: “A father tells his son the greatest story ever told, and what begins as a bedtime tale becomes a life-changing journey. Through vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. ‘The King of Kings’ invites us to rediscover the enduring power of hope, love, and redemption through the eyes of a child.”

First-time director Seong-ho Jang helmed the film and penned the screenplay with Rob Edwards. Jang and cinematographer Woo-hyung Kim serve as producers while Dennis Cho executive produces. South Korea’s Mofac Animation animated the film.

In 2023, Angel Studios released the faith-based thriller “Sound of Freedom,” which became the surprise box office success of that summer. The film grossed $40 million after only six days of release.

“The strong response to faith-based films reflects a demand by an underserved audience who are hungry for entertainment that reflects their values and beliefs,” said senior Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian at the time. “Such content can indeed find an enthusiastic audience, generate solid box office and impressive profits for their investors.”

“The King of Kings” hits theaters April 11. Watch the trailer below.
