Prosenjit Chatterjee’s first marriage to actress, Debashree Roy
Prosenjit and Debashree had known each other since childhood, and their mothers were best of friends. His mother often told him that Debashree would become his wife one day. They didn’t go out for a movie or never dated each other, but one day, Debashree proposed marriage to him. Since they were good friends, Prosenjit agreed.

However, soon, problems started cropping up in their relationship, and one day, she left him. As per insiders, Prosenjit wanted Debashree to quit acting and focus on family, and she was not ready to do so. Within a year of marriage, the duo parted ways. In an interview with The Telegraph, Debashree even stated that Prosenjit was jealous of her success. In her words:
“I know that he’d have been happy if I gave up acting altogether and became a housewife. But that was something I didn’t want to do and he knew it even before he married me. Bumba was very insecure of my success. He was professionally jealous of me. I think his ego, his jealousy and his inferiority complex worked in his mind against me. To him I was the actress Debasree Roy and not his wife Chumki.”
Prosenjit Chatterjee’s second failed marriage to Aparna Guha Thakurta
A few years later, in 1997, Prosenjit gave love a second chance and married a girl named Aparna Guhathakurta. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Prerona, soon after. However, their relationship soon strained to an irreparable extent, and the couple parted ways in 2002. After their divorce, Aparna went abroad with their daughter.
Once, in a throwback interview, Prosenjit talked about his second failed marriage with Aparna Guha Thakurta and how he was left without any bank balance. Revealing how he started from zero again, the actor shared:
“Around 13-14 years back when I left my second wife (Aparna), I was on the streets. Literally. I was forced to leave. I gave away everything. No bank balance, no house, no cash, no car. I gave away my Hindustan Park flat, my Golf Green flat, my cars, all my cash in the bank… to settle the matter. Again, I don’t blame her or regret giving away everything. I had to start from zero.”

After his divorce in 2002, Prosenjit Chatterjee finally found true love after he married fellow actress, Arpita Pal. Arpita is known for her work in Odia and Bengali films.
