Matt Lauer is raising a white flag.
The former talk show host unforgettably fell from grace in 2017 when he was accused of sexual misconduct on the Today Show. With the shocking allegations, which Matt has denied, he and co-host Savannah Guthrie had a major falling out which led to years of estrangement. But with everything currently going on in Savannah’s life, Matt is ready to put his best foot forward.

On Thursday, an insider spoke to RadarOnline about Nancy Guthrie’s devastating disappearance and the emotional toll Matt sees it taking on Savannah:
“He is absolutely shaken watching what she is going through. It’s put everything in perspective and is shining such a light on how precious life is. He can only imagine the anguish Savannah is going through right now.”
The insider went on:
“As someone who has dealt with countless threats on himself and his family, this is truly his worst nightmare, so it hits very close to home and he wants to help her in some way.”
Since his firing, correspondence between Matt and Savannah has reportedly been a minimum. In 2024, RadarOnline reported Savannah was “furious” about Matt’s scandal and “made it clear that bringing Matt back [to Today] in any capacity is out of the question. She’s still furious about everything that went down and doesn’t want any of that drama tainting… the Today brand.”
However, the pair reportedly crossed paths in 2023 at producer Jennifer Long’s wedding. According to the source, fellow Today stars Hoda Kotb and Al Roker, who were also in attendance, kept things “cordial” with their former co-anchor, while Savannah took things a step further:
“Savannah walked up to Matt before the ceremony and gave him a hug. The two had a friendly conversation for a few minutes. Both were cordial and warm.”
Now, Matt is just waiting for the right moment to reach out:
“It’s no secret they did have a lot of bad blood when he was fired. He felt very let down by a lot of people, including Savannah, and he didn’t hold back. He’s just anxious about inserting himself at the wrong moment, so he’s asked Hoda to let him know when the time is right to reach out.”
