Dhurandhar 2 : My Review. Spoiler alerts.
Finally, Watched it. 1st thing first. Dhurandhar OG is indeed OG. Part 2 is way better than part 2. In Dhurandhar 1 only scene that bore me a little bit was climax fight between Rahman dakait Vs Hamza/SP. But here the Lyari gangwar and Hamza Vs Major Iqbal fight went on and on. The whole nuclear secret israel angle seemed forced. It is too much creative liberty.
They build whole Bade sahab sequence on the line of “Kattappa me Bahubali ko kyon mara?” But to be honest whenever Bade sahab (Dawood Ibrahim) scene comes on the screen, it stops the pace of the movie. All bade sahab scenes are so underwhelming.
Music is another letdown. Put aside Gehra hua and Shararat song, even background songs are not as good as part 1. Only Tamma-Tamma song is perfectly placed and used. Other songs are like just loud/irritating music. No explanation why Major iqbals’s father is so bitter or why he is there? What purpose his role serves?
As far as Propeganda is concerned, it seems forced. Too much reference of Chaiwala. It doesn’t add anything in narration, so it might be curtailed. 1 or 2 reference were enough to take forward the story.
Now plus points. From 1 to 5, it is Ranveer Singh all the way. In both the roles he is out of the world. He nailed it. Killed it. It is once in a lifetime role and he performed it to the “T”. I don’t visualise any actor (past or present) who can play Jaskirat and Hamza so beautifully. His body language, vunrability and aura is screeminng that he is born to play this role. Gosh, just watch that scene when he sees his sister in pump house. It was oscar level acting. That one minute scene can trump many so called actors whole career.
Writing is also good, though not as sharp as as part 1, still it keeps your curiosity alive. Some small scenes are more powerful than the supposed to be elevation scenes. Take the example of pre intervel block. Aditya dhar creates suspense by just one line “Jassi tujhe gaon ki yaad nahi aati”. It shows that you don’t always need a superb fight scene for pre interval block.
Casting is another great aspect of Dhurandhar. From Atiq Ahmad to Nawaz Sharif and Jaskirat brother in law Rinda. Hats off to Mukesh Chabra.
All in all it is the goodwill of part 1 which is taking Dhurandhar 2 box office collection to the historical level. Part one is classic in almost all the aspects. Part 2 is good. Now I really hope Aditya dhar will try a different genre all together. He has already made a trilogy on Nationalist movies, Uri and 2 Dhurandhar. He is a good writer/director. So it is better that he doesn’t get typecasted.
PS : The business of Dhurandhar shows that how much trash Bollywood produces. You give a decent/good film and people will lap it up.
