Bruce Willis is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood and was hailed as the most bankable stars in the 1990s and 2000s. However, in 2022, his family announced that the handsome actor would step down from acting and the reason cited by the family was his tragic health condition, Aphasia, which was later more firmly diagnosed as FTD (frontotemporal dementia).
Bruce Willis showed an unexpected symptom before his diagnosis
Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis reveals that she noticed a subtle change in Bruce, which gave her a hint that something was wrong with the actor. In The Bossticks podcast, Emma revealed that for people suffering from dementia, forgetfulness or confusion would be the earliest signs. However, it was not the case with Bruce, but one of his childhood problems had returned and it was the early sign that something was amiss.

Elaborating on the same, Emma shared that Bruce struggled with a stutter as a child, making his speech change. In the podcast, Emma revealed that one of the first signs that something had changed in Bruce was his speech. Revealing how the stutter affected his speech, Emma shared:
“So for Bruce, it affected his language. So I was noticing things in his language, which, you know, it was a stutter that came back. He had a severe stutter as a child and that started to come back.”

Bruce Willis condition amid his FTD diagnosis
Bruce was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, and a year later, his condition advanced to FTD. When the news of Bruce’s failing health was shared by his family, the actor’s fans were heartbroken. His family revealed that the 70-year-old actor is physically strong and mobile but no longer remembers much of his acting career. The actor has been shifted into a nearby one-storey home designed specifically for his medical needs and a quieter environment. Emma discussed Bruce’s new living arrangement via the New York Post and described the choice as necessary for the family’s safety and well-being.

Emma Heming Willis faced backlash over Bruce Willis new living arrangement
As soon as Emma spoke about Bruce Willis’ new living arrangement, she faced immense backlash online. People accused her of being ‘cold’ towards her ailing husband and abandoning him. Many people also pointed out how the family could easily afford 24-hour nursing without shifting Bruce from his family home.

Emma dismissed rumours of isolation and shared how she and their daughters spend most of their time there, and Willis has been living surrounded by love, warmth, and laughter. Since Bruce’s 2023 diagnosis, his loving wife, Emma, has become a vocal advocate of dementia awareness. She has an active presence on social media, where she chronicles the everyday challenges of navigating the caregiving journey. Her memoir, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path offers a raw look into her experiences.

Bruce Willis’ daughter, Rumer Willis, shares heartbreaking update on the actor’s health
During a Q&A session on Instagram, Rumer addressed her father, Bruce Willis’s health. She shared that it didn’t matter whether he recognised her but what mattered was that her father responded to her with love. In her words:
“Doing OK, in terms of somebody who’s dealing with frontotemporal dementia, anybody with FTD is not doing great. I’m so grateful that when I go over there, and I give him a hug, whether he recognizes me or not, that he can feel the love I’ve given him, and I can feel it back from him. That I still see a spark of him, and he can feel the love that I’m giving. So that feels really nice.”
