The Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal has been hogging the headlines for months. While the majority of the NFL reporters have decided to keep their distance from the entire fiasco, Crissy Fryod has been neck deep in the drama, sharing her views on what happened and spilling some secrets while she is at it. And now, in a conversation on The Howard Eskin Show, Fryod spoke about her experience in the industry, claiming that there are many more stories like the Vrabel-Russini scandal. She previously wrote an article for The Daily Mail alleging that the NFL has a “culture of corruption” where female reporters often trade “sex for stories.”
However, things took a turn during Crissy Fryod’s appearance on The Howard Eskin Show. The former US TODAY reporter didn’t mince her words when she talked about what was going on behind the scenes after the affair was exposed. She also ripped Dianna Russini for how she handled the whole situation, referencing some of the old tweets that resurfaced after the photos with Vrabel came to light. She was quoted as saying:
“I mean, the biggest thing to me was the way that everyone knew and no one did anything about it, and it was obvious. And then to me, the worst part of it was… the way that she deleted her Twitter account, and it appeared, at least the way I took it and the way that most people took it, that she had been like covertly bragging on that. I mean, it’s disgusting.”
Crissy Fryod calls Dianna Russini’s gloating “disturbing”
In the same conversation, Crissy Fryod shared that, according to how she saw the entire situation, she feels that Dianna Russini has been “gloating” about her affair with NFL head coach Mike Vrabel. She called Dianna’s actions “sickening” and then corrected herself, saying that it was more than just sick and called it “disturbing”.
Crissy Fryod didn’t hold back and even shared her thoughts on the various clips of her criticising her own husband. Crissy slammed Dianna for saying things like that, which has made things look even worse for her. Talking to The Howard Eskin Show, Crissy was quoted as saying:
“She’s, from what I can see, going around gloating, putting it right under everyone’s nose, and that is absolutely sickening to me. I don’t think sickening is even the word; it’s more like disturbing.”

The Vrabel-Russini controversy dates back to April 2026. According to reports, Page Six published pictures of Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini on April 7, 2026, from their time together at the Ambiente Hotel in Sedona, Arizona. While both parties denied wrongdoing the next day, the buzz had already gained speed. Mike called suggestions of misconduct “laughable,” while Dianna and The Athletic executive editor Steven Ginsberg claimed that the images lacked context and that the angle meant the larger group was cut out of the picture.
Nonetheless, Dinanna had to resign from The Athletic soon after amid an internal review, but she has maintained that there was no affair. The same day, Crissy Fryod made comments about the fiasco, criticising Dianna, which ultimately led to her being fired from USA TODAY Sports less than a week later.
