It was back in October 2024, when Aldon posted a photo of himself, and along with it, he penned, ‘will caption later’.
Such a caption has left his fans heartbroken, as the ‘later’ never came. Taking to the comments section, Aldon Smith’s fans have been commenting on the post, offering condolences. To mention, no official cause of Aldon’s passing has been revealed yet; however, there have been several assumptions and rumours that have been doing the rounds. Some of the social media users have assumed whether the death was caused by suicide or overdose, while some also mentioned that he was admitted to the hospital.

In an interview with Medium back in 2024, Aldon Smith opened up about his personal struggles. Speaking about the same, Aldon shared that he had gotten some success just right after he started his career and even broke some records, but he struggles off-field as well. He admitted that the drinking and substance abuse actually caused a whole lot of trouble for him, and it led him to where he was.
In the same interview, Aldon revealed that he had learned a lot from the situations he got himself into. He mentioned that he was in a good space (2024), while adding that he was not sure what to do when his career as a player ended. He decided to use his experience to help others and guide them in the right direction.
The hardest part came with Smith suddenly feeling wanted after a phase of feeling unwanted. He was not ready for the spotlight and fame he came across with, and he felt like he was in survival mode. A lot of people were trying to guide him, and this was the hardest thing he had to face. He could be quoted as saying:
“The hardest part was going from feeling unwanted to suddenly being wanted by everyone, including strangers — all the time. That was overwhelming. I had to put on this persona every day, even though I didn’t feel like that person deep down inside. That pressure contributed to my struggles off the field.”
